Description
What happens when busy, highly-connected adults go without their tech? Our Saturday workshop begins with a thematic analysis of multi-year experiment with graduate students who engaged in a 72-hour “digital fast.” The themes speak to life in the mobile digital age, the ways we experience ourselves, others, and the built and natural worlds we call home.
To prepare for the workshop, you have the option to conduct your own 72-hour digital fast.
For three days, try following your normal schedule of personal and professional commitments yet turn off your phone completely (no airplane mode, no silent mode—completely) and put it away. Keep a journal, describing all aspects of the fast as fully as possible. We’ll use this experience to further explore larger psychological, philosophical, and ecological issues that arise from moving toward a cyborg existence.
